Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 58mm Neutral Density 1.2 (4 Stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 58mm Neutral Density 1.2 (4 Stops) | Longer exposures in bright conditions
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 58mm Neutral Density 1.2 is a four-stop neutral density filter for photographers who want more control over exposure in bright conditions. It reduces the light reaching the camera, making it possible to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture without changing the available light. That makes it particularly useful for landscapes with moving water, where a longer exposure can soften the water’s movement, and for outdoor portraits when you want to use a wider aperture in daylight. It’s also handy for video when you need to keep a deliberate shutter speed in changing or strong light. The filter’s strength is that it gives you a measured reduction in light, rather than asking you to change your framing or wait for the light to fade. It’s a focused tool for photographers who want to shape exposure with a filter.
Specialist Note
Exposure changes become much easier to plan with this filter in place. Its 58mm size is the key fit detail: use it with a lens that has a 58mm filter thread, and you can keep your usual framing while controlling incoming light. The four-stop reduction gives you room to lengthen a shutter speed—for example, a metered 1/60 sec exposure can become about 1/4 sec, which can give moving water a smoother look. I’d suggest it to landscape photographers and anyone making outdoor video who needs more exposure control in bright light. One limitation: a slower shutter will also blur moving subjects, so it won’t suit every scene.
