Hama Filter PL Circulair 55mm 72555
Hama Filter PL Circulair 55mm 72555 - 55mm circular polarising filter
Its circular polarising action reduces unwanted reflections from non-metal surfaces, giving the Hama Filter PL Circulair 55mm 72555 a clear job on a lens with a 55mm filter thread. It’s especially useful for landscape photographers: reflections from water or glass can be subdued, while colours in a landscape appear more saturated. The filter also reduces haze and blocks UV rays, so it has a role in bright outdoor scenes as well as around reflective surfaces. The supplied description identifies it as an AR-coated filter, with lens glass and a black metal mount. Those details make it a straightforward option for photographers who want polarising effects from a screw-in filter rather than relying on later editing. Use it for landscapes, views across water, or scenes with reflections on other non-metal surfaces.
On the lens
- AR coating: The filter has an anti-reflective coating as part of its optical construction. It’s a useful detail on a filter that sits in front of the lens.
- Lens glass: Hama specifies lens glass for the filter element. This gives you a glass filter rather than a plastic one.
- Black metal mount: The filter is held in a black metal frame. The dark finish keeps the visible frame unobtrusive around the front of the lens.
- 6mm mounting thickness: The frame’s mounting thickness is 6mm. That’s the stated profile to bear in mind when fitting the filter to a lens.
- More saturated landscape colour: Alongside reflection reduction, the polarising effect can make landscape colours appear stronger. That’s useful for scenes where atmospheric haze softens colour.
- UV blocking: The filter blocks UV rays and reduces haze. This makes it relevant for outdoor views as well as reflective subjects.
Specialist Note
New polariser owners often expect the filter to have the same effect from every viewpoint; this one works best when your shooting angle is right for the surface. For the strongest reduction of reflections, aim for roughly 30–40° to that surface. That’s a useful guide for photographing a view across water or reflections in a window. The 55mm thread means it’s intended for a lens with a matching filter thread, and the 6mm mounting thickness gives you a clear frame measurement to consider. I’d point landscape photographers to it for controlling reflections and bringing out richer colour, with the angle being the main thing to keep in mind.
