Ilford MGFB1K Classic 106.7cmx30m Ei 1R. | Wide-format photo paper for longer print runs

Most photo paper is bought in familiar sheet sizes; this Ilford MGFB1K Classic comes in a much longer format, so the first question is how its dimensions fit the work you actually make. The roll measures 106.7 cm by 30 m, giving you a wide working area and plenty of length to plan around. It’s listed in Renz’s Photo Paper category and named MGFB1K Classic, making it a specific Ilford paper option rather than a general description of photo paper. It makes most sense when your print plans call for this wide, continuous format. If you normally work with small sheets, this may be more stock than you need; that’s the practical trade-off. I’d compare the width with your intended finished print and allow for trimming as you plan.

Planning your paper use

When choosing a roll, start with the finished print rather than the size of the stock. Note the widest image you expect to make, then consider how much paper you’ll need for each print and any trimming. That gives you a clearer idea of how the available length fits a particular project, whether you’re preparing a single large print or several. It also helps you avoid treating a wide roll as if it were a stack of standard sheets: the format calls for a little planning around how each piece will be used. Keep your intended print sizes to hand when comparing paper options, and make sure this named Ilford version is the one you mean to buy. The format is the key detail here; the honest question is simply whether your work will make good use of it.
