Kenko Celeste UV 77mm
Kenko Celeste UV 77mm | UV filtration for a 77mm lens
For bright scenes where distant details can look washed by atmospheric haze, a UV filter is a simple way to screen ultraviolet light. The Kenko Celeste UV 77mm is a UV filter in a 77mm size, suited to photographers whose lens has a matching filter thread. It’s most relevant with film, where ultraviolet light can contribute to a bluish cast in distant landscapes. With a modern digital camera, the visible effect is often subtle because the camera already limits much of that light. So it’s best to think of this filter as a straightforward UV option, rather than a way to transform every image. For a film landscape, fit it to the lens before shooting in clear daylight and judge the result in the scene; don’t expect a dramatic change in every condition. The key practical point is the diameter: the filter size needs to match the thread on your lens.
Specialist Note
The circular 77mm rim gives this filter a clear job: it belongs on a lens with a matching filter thread, so check the marking on the lens rather than guessing from its width. As a UV filter, the Celeste is especially relevant to film photography in clear daylight, where screening ultraviolet light can help keep distant landscape detail from taking on a bluish haze. Fit it before framing a far-off view, then compare the scene with and without it; the effect depends on the light. For digital shooting, I’d keep expectations modest, since the camera already filters much UV. This is a focused filter, not a general-purpose image effect.
