Kingston 64GB DT USB 3.2 220MB/s Gen 1 Metal SE9

Kingston 64GB DT USB 3.2 220MB/s Gen 1 Metal SE9 | Straightforward portable storage

The metal design is the defining choice on Kingston’s DT Metal SE9: it gives this USB drive its distinctive material finish, while keeping the product focused on storage. With 64GB of capacity and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 connection, it’s suited to people who want a simple way to keep files to hand or move them between places. The title gives a speed figure of 220MB/s, a useful number to have when comparing drives, though it doesn’t say which type of speed that figure describes. That’s worth keeping in mind rather than assuming it applies equally to every task. For photographers, it can serve as a place for a selected set of files or a copy to pass along. It’s a practical storage tool, not a substitute for keeping another copy of anything important.

Everyday use

A USB drive is most useful when you have a clear job for it: carrying files, sharing them, or keeping a separate copy nearby. This Kingston model keeps the proposition simple, without a list of extra functions to weigh up. Think about the amount of material you plan to store and how you’ll use it; that’s more helpful than choosing by a speed figure alone. If you’re moving a large batch, the time involved can depend on the files and the devices involved, so the number in the title shouldn’t be treated as a promise for every transfer. For important photographs or documents, keep a second copy somewhere else as well. One small drive can be convenient, but relying on a single copy leaves no backup if it goes missing or stops working. That’s plain advice, but it matters.
