Kondor Blue KB-ODF-18 Element Filters 4x5.65" Opal-Filter 1/8 Diffusion
Kondor Blue KB-ODF-18 Element Filters 4x5.65" Opal-Filter 1/8 Diffusion | A restrained diffusion look for moving images
Without a diffusion filter, you’re working with the lens’s unfiltered rendering. The Kondor Blue KB-ODF-18 adds 1/8 Opal diffusion for filmmakers and image-makers who want a gentle diffusion effect rather than a pronounced change in the image. Its 4x5.65-inch format is aimed at workflows built around filters of that size, making it a considered option for controlled interviews, portraits and other scenes where you want to shape the look in camera. The 1/8 strength gives you a way to start subtly: it can take the edge off a crisp image without making diffusion the main event. This is a specialist filter, not a general-purpose protection filter or a substitute for choosing the right light. If you’re building a set of diffusion options, it offers a defined, low-strength starting point from Kondor Blue’s Element Filters range.
Where this filter fits
Think of it as a creative choice for a planned image, rather than an accessory to leave on every lens. In a dialogue scene, for example, you can use the filter to introduce a gentler rendering while keeping the effect restrained. It also suits portrait work where you want diffusion in the capture itself, instead of relying entirely on adjustments later. The useful question is whether that subtle change serves the scene; the 1/8 rating is a deliberate starting point, not a promise of a dramatic transformation.
Specialist Note
For a softly rendered interview, I’d begin with the 1/8 strength and judge the look on the subject before adding anything stronger. That rating points to a restrained effect, so it suits filmmakers who want diffusion present without making it the whole look. The 4x5.65-inch format makes this relevant to a filter workflow built around that size; I’d choose it when that format is already part of your setup. It’s also worth being clear about the limit: if you want a visibly strong diffusion effect, this mild strength may not get you there. For portraits or a calm dialogue scene, though, it’s a thoughtful place to start.
