Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND8 52 mm
Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND8 52 mm | Slow the shutter in bright light
Bright daylight can make it hard to use a slower shutter speed: the scene gets overexposed before you can capture the motion you want. The Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND8 reduces the light reaching your camera, giving you more room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture in bright conditions. It’s suited to photographers who want to show movement in water or clouds, or who want to keep a wide aperture when the light is strong. The effect depends on the scene and your exposure settings, so you’ll still need to meter and adjust as you shoot. This is a straightforward way to gain exposure control without changing the scene itself. Its 52 mm size is for a lens with a matching filter thread; the filter is black.
Specialist Note
“Will the Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND8 52 mm let me use a slower shutter in daylight?” Yes: ND8 means a three-stop reduction in light, so, as a starting example, a shutter speed of 1/125 sec can become about 1/15 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That can give a stream or fountain visible movement instead of freezing every detail. I’d also consider it when you want to keep a wider aperture outdoors; fit it to a lens with a 52 mm filter thread, then set exposure for the result you want. One limit to keep in mind: three stops won’t create extremely long exposures in strong sun. For that, you’d need a stronger reduction in light.
