Marumi Protect Filter Super DHG 49 mm
Marumi Protect Filter Super DHG 49 mm | A simple layer of front-element protection
The defining choice here is a 49 mm filter diameter: it makes this a size-specific protective filter for a lens designed to take 49 mm filters. Marumi’s Super DHG Protect Filter gives the front of that lens a separate surface to face everyday contact, helping keep dust and fingerprints off the lens glass itself. It’s for photographers who want to leave a protective filter in place while carrying or using their lens, rather than adding one only for a particular shoot. That makes most sense for everyday photography, walks outdoors and busy situations where a lens front can easily get touched. The job is deliberately straightforward: this is a protection filter, not a creative-effects filter. It won’t make a lens impact-proof, and it can’t protect the rest of the camera or lens. For a matching 49 mm lens, though, it offers a simple way to put a replaceable surface in front of the front element.
Specialist Note
A breezy afternoon on a town street is exactly when a protective filter earns its place: the camera comes out, goes away, and the lens front is exposed to the day. I’d leave this Marumi on a lens made for 49 mm filters during that sort of everyday use, then clean the filter surface when it needs attention. Its 49 mm size gives you a clear match to look for on the lens; the black colour keeps the front looking understated. It suits photographers who value a little extra protection without changing the kind of filter they’re using. Just remember, it’s a front-surface guard, not protection against a hard knock.
