Metabones Canon EF - Sony FZ T Cine Smart Adapter

Metabones Canon EF - Sony FZ T Cine Smart Adapter: Use Canon EF lenses on Sony FZ cameras

Without an adapter, Canon EF and EF-S lenses won't fit directly on a Sony FZ video camera. The Metabones Canon EF - Sony FZ T Cine Smart Adapter connects those lenses to Sony FZ cameras, so you can bring compatible Canon glass into a Sony FZ setup. It’s a useful route when you already have EF or EF-S lenses and want to use them on your video camera rather than replace them. During filming, lens information is passed to the camera and can be viewed in the viewfinder. That makes the adapter relevant for a shoot where you need to see lens data while framing, as well as for work with Canon lenses that have image stabilisation. The adapter supports that stabilisation, but it doesn’t support autofocus; plan on working without AF. For a lens change between EF and EF-S optics, the same adapter provides the connection to the camera. The controls and locking hardware are made for operation on a camera rig: there’s a hand-operated iris ring, a programmable function button and a firm EF lens lock. This is a specific mount adapter, not a general-purpose converter, so its value comes down to using Canon EF or EF-S lenses on Sony FZ video cameras.

Highlights

• Canon IS support: The adapter supports image stabilisation in compatible Canon lenses. That matters when you’re using a stabilised lens and want its IS function available on the camera setup.
• No autofocus: Autofocus isn’t supported, so this adapter is not the choice for an autofocus-led shooting approach. The limitation is worth factoring into a lens and camera plan before a shoot.
• Programmable function button: A customisable button is built into the adapter. Set it to the function you prefer, rather than treating the adapter as a passive mount connection.
• Geared iris ring: The ring lets you adjust the lens iris manually, and its large gears provide a grippy surface for operation. It brings iris control onto the adapter itself.
• EF locking mechanism: A secure EF lock holds the lens firmly to the adapter. That firm connection is particularly relevant when changing lenses or handling a camera rig during setup.
• Reflective interior treated: The inside of the adapter is lined to reduce internal reflections. This is a considered detail in an optical connection positioned between the lens and camera.

Good to know

The adapter draws its power from the video camera, rather than requiring a separate power source. It also has a micro USB port for adapter firmware upgrades, so it can be updated through that connection. These details matter when planning how the adapter fits into your camera setup: power comes from the camera, while the USB port is provided for updates. No separate adapter power supply is listed.
