Nikon HB-22 Lens Hood For PC85/2.8D
Nikon HB-22 Lens Hood For PC85/2.8D | Helps shade the lens from stray light
Strong light arriving from the side can create unwanted flare, especially when you’re framing a subject against a bright window or working outdoors. The Nikon HB-22 is a lens hood for the PC85/2.8D, designed to shade the lens from light outside your composition. It’s a purpose-specific accessory for photographers using that Nikon lens, rather than a general hood for several lenses. Fit it when you want to reduce stray light reaching the front of the lens while keeping your framing unchanged. That can be helpful for window-lit portraits, architectural details or scenes with bright light near the edge of the frame. A hood won’t remove a light source that’s actually in your picture, but it can help with light coming from just outside it. Its black colour keeps the accessory visually unobtrusive, and the clear model designation makes it easy to identify as the HB-22 for the PC85/2.8D.
Specialist Note
The HB-22’s black colour keeps it visually quiet as you compose with the PC85/2.8D, so your attention stays on the framing. I’d use it for a window-lit portrait with the bright window just outside the picture, or outdoors when sunlight is coming in from the side: fit the hood and keep that light source beyond the frame. This is made for the PC85/2.8D, so it’s a specific match rather than an accessory to choose by appearance alone. One limitation to keep in mind: if the bright source is within the composition, the hood can’t shade it out. For that lens, though, it’s a straightforward way to manage stray light.
