Nikon HB-23 Lens Hood For AF 12-24mm And 18-35
Nikon HB-23 Lens Hood For AF 12-24mm And 18-35 | A dedicated hood for two named Nikon lenses
Nikon’s decision to make the HB-23 for two named lenses is what defines it: this is a lens hood for photographers using the AF 12-24mm or 18-35, rather than a general accessory. A hood helps shield the front of a lens from light coming in at an angle, which can reduce unwanted flare in bright conditions. That makes it relevant for outdoor landscapes and architecture, where light may enter the frame from the side. It can also provide some physical screening around the front of the lens during everyday shooting. The hood is black, so its appearance stays understated alongside your camera gear. If one of the two named lenses is already part of your kit, the HB-23 is a straightforward way to add a hood intended for that pairing. Its usefulness is specific: it’s aimed at those lenses, not every lens in a camera bag.
Specialist Note
Landscape photographers using the AF 12-24mm, and architecture shooters with the 18-35, are the people I’d point towards this HB-23. The two named lens pairings make it easy to see where it belongs: choose it for one of those lenses, rather than assuming a hood will suit your whole kit. For a wide outdoor view, fit it before you start framing so it can help shade the lens from stray side light; the same approach can be useful when photographing buildings in bright conditions. Its black finish gives it a quiet, practical look. The honest caveat is that this is a focused accessory, so it makes sense when you own one of those specific lenses.
