Pentax PH-RBD 82 Lens Hood D-FA 24-70 2.8
Pentax PH-RBD 82 Lens Hood D-FA 24-70 2.8 | Helps shade the lens from angled light
The defining detail is the PH-RBD 82 designation: this is a specifically named hood for the Pentax D-FA 24-70 2.8, rather than an unspecified shade. A lens hood’s job is to help keep light arriving from outside the frame from hitting the lens directly, which can reduce flare and help preserve contrast. That’s useful with low sun, bright windows or strong lamps near the edge of a composition. This hood suits photographers using the named D-FA zoom who want a hood identified for their lens, particularly for portraits, events and everyday subjects where the light direction can change quickly. It won’t change the lens’s framing or aperture; it’s there to manage unwanted light, not exposure or perspective. If you prefer to carry as little as possible, it does mean another accessory to fit and pack. For scenes with strong side light, that small addition can be worthwhile.
Specialist Note
In use, it gives you one less thing to think about when a bright source sits just outside the frame: fit the hood for that scene and keep composing. The 24–70mm range lets you frame a wider environmental portrait at 24mm or tighten the view at 70mm, while f/2.8 gives you room to work with available light. The hood helps with stray light; it doesn’t change the exposure you choose. I’d suggest it to Pentax photographers who move between indoor events and daylight portraits. One limit to keep in mind: a light source inside the frame can still cause flare, so adjust your position when you can. For side-lit outdoor scenes, keep the sun just outside the composition and let the hood help with light coming in from the side.
