PolarPro 135 Series - Chroma CP Filter - 77mm
PolarPro 135 Series - Chroma CP Filter - 77mm - Cuts light by 1.6 to 2.7 stops
Without a polarising filter, glare and reflected light can wash out colour and detail. The PolarPro 135 Series Chroma CP Filter is a 77mm circular polarising filter that boosts colour saturation and contrast while reducing incoming light by 1.6 to 2.7 stops. It’s a considered option for landscape photographers who want more presence in skies and foliage, and for architecture work where reflections can distract from a building’s surface. Use its polarising effect to make reflected glare less prominent on glass or water, or to bring stronger-looking colour to a scene with greenery. German Chroma glass is specified for resolutions up to 8K, and the filter has a neutral colour tint, so its optical specification prioritises fine detail without adding an intentional warm or cool shift. A fingerprint- and scratch-resistant coating and weather-resistant aluminium construction round out a filter made for digital and film photography.
What the filter changes
- Circular polarisation: The filter changes how reflected light appears, reducing distracting glare and increasing contrast. That’s useful for scenes with reflective glass or water.
- Colour and contrast: Its polarising effect can make skies appear deeper and foliage more vivid. That gives landscape images a stronger colour separation.
- 1.6 to 2.7 stops of light reduction: The filter cuts the light reaching the camera by this amount. It adds some light control as well as its polarising effect.
- German Chroma glass: The glass is specified for resolutions up to 8K. That detail is relevant when preserving fine image detail matters.
- Neutral colour tint: The filter is specified with a neutral tint, rather than an intentional warm or cool shift. Colour changes come from the polarising effect.
- Protective coating and aluminium housing: A fingerprint- and scratch-resistant coating helps protect the filter surface during handling. Its frame and housing use weather-resistant 6061 aluminium.
Specialist Note
“Does this 77mm Chroma CP also work as a straightforward ND filter?” It does reduce light by 1.6 to 2.7 stops, but I’d choose it mainly for its polarising effect, not just to darken a scene. The 77mm size means it’s for a lens with a matching filter thread, so check that against the lens you plan to use. I’d recommend it to landscape and architecture photographers: use the polarising effect to bring more definition to a sky or to reduce reflections on a glass façade. The neutral tint is a welcome detail when you want those changes without an obvious colour cast.
