PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 - Black Mist - 95mm - McKinnon Series | Control light, soften highlights

Bright daylight can leave you wanting a slower shutter speed, while reflections and hard highlights still distract from the shot. The PolarPro Chroma VND/PL 6-9 combines variable neutral-density control with polarizing functionality and a Black Mist effect, so you can shape exposure and the look of the image with one filter. Its 6-9 range is intended for situations where you need substantial light reduction; the polarizing part can help manage reflections, and Black Mist gives highlights a softer treatment. That makes it especially relevant for video work outdoors, or for stills where you want a more atmospheric rendering than a clean, crisp filter look. It’s a specialist creative tool rather than a neutral fix: the effect is part of the image, not something to add later. The 95mm size also makes it a choice for setups built around that filter diameter.

Specialist Note

“Can this filter soften a bright portrait without giving up exposure control?” Yes—that combination is exactly why this version is interesting. The 95mm diameter is the practical detail to start with: your lens or filter setup needs to accommodate that size, so it’s best suited to a rig already built around 95mm filters. The McKinnon Series name makes it easy to identify this particular creative option in the Chroma range. I’d look at it for outdoor portraits when you want a gentler highlight feel, or for daylight video where you’re balancing exposure and reflections. One honest point: Black Mist is a visible styling choice, so it won’t suit every scene.
