PolarPro VND - 49mm - 6-9 Stops - Black Mist - Edition II - Peter McKinnon
PolarPro VND - 49mm - 6-9 Stops - Black Mist - Edition II - Peter McKinnon | Control daylight with a softened look
The defining choice is combining variable neutral-density control with a Black Mist look: you can reduce the light reaching your camera while adding a softer, more atmospheric rendering. That pairing makes this PolarPro filter particularly relevant to video makers and photographers who want to shape both exposure and mood with one filter. Its 6-9-stop range is aimed at situations with plenty of light, such as filming outdoors, when you want to keep your chosen shutter speed instead of letting bright conditions dictate it. Black Mist is also a creative choice, giving highlights a gentler appearance than a strictly neutral image. This isn’t a filter for every look: if you want the cleanest, most unaltered rendering, the mist effect may not suit the shot. The 49mm size and Peter McKinnon Edition II name identify this specific version.
Specialist Note
Exposure adjustments can be made within the variable range, so you don’t have to swap between fixed ND strengths as the light changes. I’d consider it for outdoor video when you want to hold your shutter speed and keep the Black Mist character in the image. The 6-9-stop range is a substantial reduction in light, so it makes most sense in bright conditions; it won’t cover lighter ND needs below six stops. The 49mm size is the detail to match to your lens’s filter size. For a softer highlight look alongside that exposure control, this Peter McKinnon Edition II has a clear creative purpose.
