Revar Cine 138mm / 60mm Close-Up Donut Diopter +1
Revar Cine 138mm / 60mm Close-Up Donut Diopter +1 | Bring close details into focus
On a cine setup, a small detail can be just out of reach when you’re trying to focus close. The Revar Cine Close-Up Donut Diopter +1 is an add-on optical aid for that situation: it helps a lens focus nearer, bringing close subjects into range. Its name gives you the key details: a +1 diopter strength and a 138mm / 60mm donut format. That makes it a specialist option for filmmakers and camera crews working with close-up shots, rather than a general-purpose filter. Think product details, textures or a small insert in a scene, where moving closer to the subject is part of the shot. A diopter changes the close-focus behaviour of the lens, so it can be useful when the lens alone won’t focus as close as your framing calls for. It’s a straightforward way to explore closer compositions within a cine workflow.
What a close-up diopter does
A close-up diopter works as an additional focusing aid in front of a lens. It changes the distance at which the lens can focus, helping you compose a nearer subject without relying on the lens’s own close-focus limit. That’s useful when you want a close insert but need to keep the camera and scene arranged as planned. The result still depends on the lens and how you frame the subject, so treat the diopter as a way to extend your close-up options, not as a guarantee of a particular magnification or working distance.
Specialist Note
The open centre of this donut-style diopter is a practical detail: it leaves a defined clear area in the middle of the filter, while the ring format suits a cine setup built around larger front accessories. The 138mm / 60mm designation is useful when you’re planning how it sits in that setup; the +1 strength is the part that helps bring focus closer. I’d consider it for controlled insert shots, such as a label or a surface texture, where you can move the camera and lens deliberately and refine focus on the detail. It’s aimed at close-up work, but +1 won’t turn a lens into an extreme-macro tool.
