Rodenstock Variond Extended 82
Rodenstock Variond Extended 82 | Control bright-light exposures
To soften moving water or clouds in a bright scene, an ND filter lets you use a slower shutter speed and shape how motion appears in the photograph. The Rodenstock Variond Extended 82 is a grey ND filter for photographers who want more control over exposure in strong light. It can also help you keep a wider aperture outdoors when the available light would otherwise lead you to stop down. The result depends on the exposure you choose: use a slower shutter speed to show motion as blur, or use the filter to give yourself more room to work with aperture. It suits landscape photographers and anyone who wants to make deliberate exposure choices outside. The product name identifies this specific version, so use the full name when comparing filter options.
Specialist Note
The grey colour is a practical clue to this filter’s role: it reduces light, giving you scope to use a slower shutter speed in a bright scene. I’d consider it when you want moving water to blur rather than freeze; choose a slower shutter speed and adjust your exposure to suit the light. It can also help you keep a wider aperture outdoors instead of stopping down just to manage brightness. The “82” in Rodenstock Variond Extended 82 helps distinguish this version when you’re comparing listings, so keep the full product name to hand. It suits photographers who like to shape motion and exposure deliberately. One limitation: reducing light isn’t helpful when your aim is to keep shutter speeds fast.
