Rycote Duck Raincover 6
Rycote Duck Raincover 6 | A rain cover for microphone setups
The defining choice here is in the name: the Rycote Duck Raincover 6 is a raincover, made for microphone use rather than general camera protection. That gives it a focused role in a sound kit: when rain threatens an outdoor recording, it’s the microphone cover you’ll want to consider. It suits sound recordists and filmmakers who work outside and need to think about weather as well as the sound they’re capturing. For an outdoor interview, for example, it’s a relevant accessory to have ready when a shower starts; for location recording, it belongs with the microphone gear rather than among camera covers. The product name identifies it as the Duck Raincover 6, but doesn’t tell us which microphones it fits or how it attaches. I’d treat compatibility as the key detail to establish for your own setup, rather than assume that a raincover will suit every microphone.
Specialist Note
Rain begins during an outdoor interview, and the microphone suddenly needs its own weather plan. That’s the situation where the Rycote Duck Raincover 6 makes sense to consider. Its name tells you the essential job—a raincover—and its category places it with microphone accessories, so it’s aimed at protecting the sound setup, not the camera. I’d match the exact Duck Raincover 6 to the microphone you intend to use, then have it ready before the weather turns; that’s more useful than scrambling once recording is underway. It suits people making recordings outdoors, but the honest limit is that the name alone doesn’t establish fit for a particular mic.
