Rycote Windjammer WJ 7
Rycote Windjammer WJ 7 | Help keep wind off your microphone recordings
A light breeze can become a distracting rush of noise when it reaches a microphone, especially during an outdoor interview or a recording of ambient sound. The Rycote Windjammer WJ 7 is a microphone accessory intended to help reduce that problem. Its name describes its purpose: a windjammer provides wind protection for recording, rather than changing how you operate the microphone. That makes it relevant to audio recording in open-air locations where wind could interfere with the sound you want to capture. It suits people who record spoken audio or location sound and need a straightforward way to address wind at the microphone. The product is identified as the WJ 7; the name alone doesn’t establish which microphones it fits, so it’s best to match that model designation to your microphone setup before relying on it for a particular recording.
Specialist Note
Wind rumble can distract from a voice before you even notice it creeping into a recording, and that’s the issue this Windjammer is intended to address. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or location ambience: put the wind protection on the microphone, then place the mic close enough to the speaker or sound source to capture what matters. “Windjammer” tells you its role; WJ 7 is the specific model name, useful when matching the accessory to the setup you have. One honest point: it’s for wind, not a fix for every unwanted sound, such as handling noise or traffic. If you’re unsure about fit, check the WJ 7 designation against your microphone before choosing it.
