Sirui Aurora Series 85mm f/1.4 FullFrame Autofocus Lens (L Mount) | Soft-background portraits in low light

The Sirui Aurora Series 85mm f/1.4 FullFrame Autofocus Lens (L Mount) pairs a short-telephoto 85mm view with a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture. It’s built for Leica L photographers who make portraits or photograph events and want a focused subject against a softly blurred background. The full-frame coverage suits full-frame Leica L cameras, while autofocus helps you work at a natural pace when people are moving or changing expression. At f/1.4, you can also keep shooting in dimmer indoor settings without immediately reaching for extra lighting. This is a prime lens, so its framing stays fixed; you’ll need to adjust your position rather than zoom. That makes it especially well suited to individual portraits, candid moments at a reception, and other situations where you can choose your distance from the subject. If those are the pictures you make, this lens gives you a clear, portrait-focused perspective to work with.

Specialist Note

Guests gather by the windows as a reception winds down, and the light is beginning to fade. For that kind of portrait, f/1.4 gives you room to keep the subject bright while letting the background fall gently out of focus; take care to place focus on the nearer eye. The 85mm focal length gives faces a flattering, natural-looking perspective, though you’ll want some room between you and your subject. I’d suggest it to Leica L photographers who make portraits or cover events and prefer working from a little distance. For a group shot in a tight room, that fixed view can be restrictive, so it pairs best with space to move.
