Sirui Sniper 75mm f/1.2 APS-C/S35 Autofocus Lens (Z Mount White) | Close portraits with soft backgrounds

For portraits that bring your subject forward and soften the background, the Sirui Sniper 75mm f/1.2 APS-C/S35 Autofocus Lens (Z Mount White) gives Nikon Z APS-C photographers a short-telephoto prime with a bright maximum aperture. Its 75mm focal length is well suited to head-and-shoulder portraits, and autofocus helps when your subject shifts or you’re working at an event. The f/1.2 aperture lets in plenty of light and can create a shallow depth of field, helping keep attention on a face rather than the setting behind it. It’s also a useful focal length for candid moments where you want some distance from your subject. The 21° angle of view is quite narrow, though, so framing can feel tight in small rooms. This lens is best suited to portraits and events where you have room to compose.

Specialist Note

When a portrait feels too wide and the background keeps pulling attention, this 75mm gives you a tighter view without needing to crowd your subject. I’d use f/1.2 for a single-person portrait when you want the surroundings to fall out of focus; take care to place the focus precisely on the eye. For event guests who are moving, autofocus makes it easier to keep working, and I’d start around 1/250 s, raising ISO if the light calls for it. On a Nikon DX body, the framing is roughly equivalent to 113mm on full frame, which is flattering for portraits but can be restrictive in a cramped room. It suits portrait photographers and event shooters who can step back a little.
