Its 24mm focal length gives you a wide-angle view, with an estimated 84° angle of view on full frame. The T1.4 maximum aperture gives you room to work in dimmer scenes without immediately relying on brighter lighting. Focus is manual, so this lens suits filmmakers who want to set focus themselves and keep it under deliberate control while recording. It’s a focused choice for interior scenes, environmental portraits and other shots where you want a broad view but still need to work close to your subject. For stills, remember that focusing is manual.

Specialist Note

This lens can hold a wide interior frame at T1.4 when adding lights isn’t your first move. For a small-room dialogue scene, I’d start at T1.4 if the light calls for it, then make a careful manual focus pull as the subject moves; you stay in charge of where attention sits. On a Sony APS-C body, the 24mm gives framing like a 36mm lens, which can feel more natural for a single-person shot than a very wide view.
