SmallRig 5153 Universal Shoulder Pad w/ 15mm Dual Rod Clamp
SmallRig 5153 Universal Shoulder Pad w/ 15mm Dual Rod Clamp | Extra support for handheld video
On a handheld video shoot, a camera rig can be awkward to support with your arms alone. The SmallRig 5153 is a shoulder rig with a shoulder pad and a 15mm dual rod clamp, giving the setup extra support where it meets your shoulder. It’s suited to videographers building a rig for handheld work, especially when they want to shoot from the shoulder rather than simply hold the camera out in front of them. The clamp is intended for a pair of 15mm rods, so it has a clear place within a rod-based rig build. Use it for interview footage, event coverage or moving shots where handheld operation is part of the plan. This is a focused support component, not a complete camera rig; its job is to help support the camera during handheld video work.
Specialist Note
The shoulder pad gives a handheld rig a point of support that holding the camera out in front of you can’t provide. I’d consider it for shoulder-shot interviews or event coverage: position the pad on your shoulder, then build the setup around its 15mm dual rod clamp. Those two details matter in practice—the pad provides the shoulder contact, while the clamp gives the support a defined place in a rod-based rig. It’s for someone who wants to work handheld with extra support, rather than someone looking for a standalone camera support. The fit is tied to 15mm dual rods, so plan your rig around that specific connection.
