SmallRig 5694 Arca-Type Side Handle w/ Rec Trigger | Trigger off-camera flash while you work

Off-camera flash can give portraits more shape and product shots more control over highlights. The SmallRig 5694 Arca-Type Side Handle w/ Rec Trigger is a flash trigger and transmitter for photographers who want to fire flashes positioned away from the camera. It’s particularly suited to portrait and product work, where adjusting the light’s position can change the look of a face or the way a product’s surface reads. The side-handle format also brings a recording trigger into the setup, so it combines a camera-side handle with the named trigger functions. That makes it relevant to people who move between still photography and recording, as well as photographers building a flash setup. Think of it as a way to work with off-camera flash, not as a flash unit itself. The clearest reason to choose it is that mix of side handle and flash-transmitter role.

Specialist Note

The SmallRig 5694 is best at giving you a camera-side way to trigger off-camera flash while working from a side handle. For a portrait, place the flash away from the camera and use it to shape the light across the subject; for a product shot, reposition the flash to bring out detail in the surface. The Rec Trigger adds a recording trigger to the handle, which may suit a setup used for both stills and video. I’d point it towards photographers who want this particular combination, rather than someone shopping for a flash itself: this is the transmitter, not the light source. Its appeal is practical and specific—side-handle form, recording trigger, and off-camera flash control together.
