SmallRig 5952 Side Handle w/ Nato Clamp
SmallRig 5952 Side Handle w/ NATO Clamp - 36 mm of vertical adjustment
A camera rig can feel awkward and tiring to hold once you add the gear needed for a video setup. The SmallRig 5952 Side Handle w/ NATO Clamp adds a comfortable side grip for handheld video, attaching to a camera cage with its NATO clamp and included NATO rail. Its silicone-covered handle gives your palm a softer, more secure contact point, while 36 mm of vertical adjustment lets you position the grip to suit the rig’s balance. You can set it up for either left- or right-handed operation, which is useful when you change how you hold the camera for a moving shot or a static interview. The handle also has attachment points for accessories, so you can build a compact rig with a monitor, light or microphone close at hand. It’s a focused bit of support for video makers who want a steadier hold without changing their whole cage setup.
Grip, mounting and accessories
- Aluminium construction: The handle is made from aluminium alloy and has a stated load capacity of 10 kg. That gives a solid base for a rig carrying additional video equipment.
- Accessory connections: 1/4"-20 threaded holes and built-in cold-shoe mounts provide places to attach compatible accessories, including a monitor mount, LED light or microphone.
- Wrist-strap attachment points: Multiple points are provided for attaching a wrist strap. It’s a useful backup when moving with a rig in hand.
- Compact dimensions: The handle measures 104.9 × 68.2 × 73.4 mm. Its compact shape keeps the grip close to the camera cage.
- Magnetic hex key: A magnetic hex key is included for fitting the handle and making adjustments to the setup.
Specialist Note
Is the SmallRig 5952 worth adding to a handheld video rig? Yes, when you want a more controlled side grip and a tidy place for a small accessory. I’d consider it for interview work: set the handle’s 36 mm vertical adjustment to find a comfortable balance, then use a cold shoe for a microphone or monitor mount. The aluminium construction has a 10 kg load capacity, so the handle has a substantial stated rating, though the complete rig’s weight still matters to your arms. At 226 g, the handle itself stays relatively light. The included NATO rail is the key pairing detail: your cage needs a suitable place to mount that rail.
