SmallRig 6284 × Potato Jet Tribex Pro X-Clutch Hydraulic Monopod (Basic Version) | Support for landscapes and steady video

Without support, you have to steady the camera yourself; this SmallRig and Potato Jet collaboration gives you a monopod to work from instead. It’s for photographers and filmmakers who want a support point while composing, rather than relying entirely on a handheld setup. The supplier identifies it as suitable for landscapes, long exposures, night and astro photography, as well as steady video. That makes it relevant for considered framing and video work where reducing camera movement matters. Its name describes it as a hydraulic monopod with an X-Clutch, in the Basic Version. A monopod is a single support, so it won’t stand on its own like a set of tripod legs. Think of it as a way to support your camera while keeping your setup based around one leg, rather than as a substitute for every kind of tripod support.

Specialist Note

Is the SmallRig 6284 Tribex Pro X-Clutch a monopod for more than video? Yes: its stated uses include landscapes, long exposures, and night and astro photography too. I’d point it toward someone who wants support for deliberate framing but prefers a single-leg setup. The hydraulic monopod name tells you what kind of support this is; the X-Clutch name identifies the model’s named feature, without needing to assume details about how it operates. For a landscape, use it as a support point while you settle your composition; for video, it’s intended to help keep footage steady. One practical limit: a monopod needs you to support it, so it can’t stand unattended like tripod legs. The 6284 model number is handy to have when asking for this exact version.
