Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 1.2
Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 1.2 | Control exposure in bright light
Without an ND filter, bright conditions can leave you choosing between a faster shutter and the aperture you actually want. The Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 1.2 is a neutral-density filter for photographers and video creators who need to reduce incoming light while keeping their chosen exposure settings in play. Its IRND designation also makes it relevant when infrared response is a concern, alongside the visible light reduction. Use it when you want a longer shutter speed for motion in daylight, or when you’d rather keep your aperture open in a bright scene. The 1.2 marking gives you a specific density to work with, rather than an adjustable range. This is a specialist filter for a lens setup designed around a 112mm filter size; it’s most useful when that exact size is already part of your kit. If you’re planning a filter purchase around a particular exposure effect, the fixed density is worth factoring into your choice.
Specialist Note
On a bright street, I’d use the 1.2 density when I want a slower shutter for movement without letting the scene run away in exposure. It’s also handy when you want to keep a wider aperture in daylight; fit the filter, then set your exposure to suit the scene. The 112mm size matters in practice: this belongs on a lens setup that takes that filter size, so it’s a considered fit rather than a small accessory to buy on a whim. I’d point it toward photographers and filmmakers who already work with 112mm filters and need IRND control in strong light. One limitation is its fixed 1.2 density: it won’t give you a variable adjustment.
