Urth 49mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 49mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ | Soft glow around bright highlights
Give bright lights a soft bloom and take the edge off a crisp, digital-looking image with a White Mist filter. The Urth 49mm Ethereal ¼ White Mist Filter Plus+ is a 49mm filter with a quarter-strength effect, suited to photographers who want a more atmospheric look without changing their lens or adding an effect later. It’s especially useful for portraits with light sources in the frame, night scenes with signs or streetlights, and video where a gentle glow can help create a softer mood. The ¼ strength offers a restrained starting point: highlights can look diffused while the scene remains recognisable, rather than being swallowed in haze. This isn’t a neutral filter for keeping every image crisp and clinical; it’s a deliberate look. Choose it when you want bright points to feel softer and the overall picture to have a touch more character.
Specialist Note
Bright lights can look a little harsh in an otherwise gentle portrait; this filter gives you a way to soften their appearance in camera. The ¼ strength is a sensible level for a visible but restrained mist effect, so I’d consider it for portraits near a window or for evening scenes with illuminated signs in the frame. Its 49mm size means it’s intended for a lens with a matching filter thread, so it won’t suit every lens in a kit. I’d use it when you want the glow to be part of the image, not as an everyday protective filter. If you need crisp, unaltered highlights, leave it off.
