Urth 49mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 49mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ | A softer, atmospheric look
A bright window in a portrait, or a neon sign after dark, can draw the eye with a hard, crisp edge. The Urth 49mm Magnetic Ethereal Black Mist Filter Plus+ is for photographers who want to soften that rendering and give highlights a more atmospheric presence. A Black Mist filter is used for a gentle diffusion effect: bright areas appear softer, while the image takes on a less clinical feel. It suits portraits, evening street scenes and other photographs where you want light to contribute to the mood rather than look sharply defined. The 49mm size identifies the filter diameter, and its magnetic design makes it a practical option if you like to change your look while shooting. It’s a creative filter, not a neutral correction: the effect becomes part of the photograph, so choose it when that softer character is what you want.
Specialist Note
Hard highlights can make an otherwise gentle portrait feel a little stark; this filter is made for taking that edge off. The 49mm size means you’ll need a lens with a matching filter diameter, so it’s worth checking the marking on the lens itself. Its magnetic design is handy if you want to move between a clear view and a softened one as the light changes. For portraits, try keeping a bright window or lamp in the frame; for evening streets, let a sign or other light source sit in the background to bring out the misty character. I’d treat it as a deliberate look rather than an everyday setting: it changes the image, and that’s the point.
