Urth 52mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 52mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+ | Softer highlights, atmospheric images
Bright lights in a portrait or a night scene can look crisp and a little harsh; a Black Mist filter is made to soften that impression. The Urth Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+ gives you that creative effect in a 52mm size, with a half-strength rating. It suits photographers and filmmakers who want a gentler, more atmospheric rendering from their images, especially when a scene includes bright highlights. Use it when you want the light to feel less stark without changing the subject or the lighting setup. The 52mm size is the practical detail to match against your lens’s filter thread. This is a creative filter rather than a general-purpose UV filter, so its appeal is specific: it lets you introduce a soft, mist-like character while composing and shooting, rather than adding the look later in editing. The effect is part of the picture, so it’s best chosen deliberately.
Specialist Note
The 52mm size makes this a very specific fit: match it to a lens with a 52mm filter thread, and you can leave the effect in place as you frame. Its ½ Black Mist strength is the detail to think about creatively; it gives you a mist-filter look without choosing a stronger named strength. I’d consider it for portraits with bright points of light behind the subject, or for evening scenes where you want highlights to feel softer. Keep the framing simple and let those bright areas provide the effect. It won’t suit every scene—the softened look is an intentional choice, not an all-purpose correction.
