Urth 62mm Ethereal 1/8 Diffusion Lens Filter (Plus+)
Urth 62mm Ethereal 1/8 Diffusion Lens Filter (Plus+) | Add a gentle glow to highlights
The defining trait of this filter is its 1/8 diffusion strength: it’s made to soften the look of light without imposing a heavy effect. That suits portrait photographers and anyone who wants a gentler rendering of bright highlights in a scene. Use it when you’d like light sources to feel softer in the frame, or skin to appear less crisply defined, while keeping the overall image recognisable. The Ethereal name describes the look it’s intended to create; the result will depend on the light and subject in front of your lens. This is a creative filter, rather than a colour-correction tool, so it’s best chosen for its visual effect. The 62mm size is the filter diameter to match to a lens’s filter thread. If your lens takes that size, this gives you a simple way to add diffusion at the point of capture.
Specialist Note
1/8 is a gentle diffusion strength, so I’d reach for this when you want a softened look, not an overt haze. It suits portraits especially well: frame someone with a bright window or other highlight in view and let the filter soften the light’s appearance. For evening scenes, keeping a lamp or other bright point in the composition can bring out the filter’s glow. Its 62mm size matters practically: it needs to match the filter thread on your lens. One honest point: diffusion is a visible creative choice, and the effect can feel too soft for a crisp, contrasty look. I’d use it when that softer character is exactly what you want.
