Urth 62mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 62mm Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+ | A softer look for bright highlights
Bright lights in a portrait or a night scene can feel stark; a Black Mist filter is made to soften that look as you shoot. The Urth Ethereal ½ Black Mist Filter Plus+ gives you that effect in a 62mm size, with a half-strength designation. It suits photographers who want a gentler, more diffused rendering in-camera, rather than relying on editing to create that look later. Try it for portraits with a bright window in the frame, or for city scenes where points of light catch your eye. The result depends on the scene and your taste, so it’s worth thinking of the filter as a creative choice, not a correction for every photograph. Check your lens for a 62mm filter size before choosing it.
Specialist Note
For softening bright highlights as you shoot, this filter puts the effect in front of the lens, rather than leaving it for editing later. The ½ strength gives you a defined starting point for a misted look; how prominent it feels will depend on the light and scene. I’d consider it for portraits with a bright window behind the subject, or night photographs with point lights in the frame. A lens marked 62mm is the size to pair it with. One honest caveat: if you want highlights to stay crisp and unsoftened, this isn’t the filter to leave on by default.
