Urth 95mm Magnetic ND8 (3 Stop) Filter Plus+
Urth 95mm Magnetic ND8 (3 Stop) Filter Plus+ | Tame bright light for creative exposure
On a bright afternoon, you may want water to blur gently or a wider aperture without letting the scene become overexposed. The Urth 95mm Magnetic ND8 (3 Stop) Filter Plus+ is a neutral-density filter for reducing the light reaching your camera by three stops. That gives you room to use a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture while keeping exposure under control. Its magnetic design is part of the product, and its 95mm size is clearly stated in the name. This filter suits photographers who want a moderate, predictable reduction rather than a very strong darkening effect. It’s especially useful when you’re shaping motion in a scene or managing bright conditions for a wider-aperture shot. The ND8 rating and three-stop description point to the same amount of light reduction, so you can plan exposure changes without guessing at the strength.
What three stops can do
Three stops gives you a straightforward exposure trade-off. For example, if a correct exposure calls for 1/125 sec, the same aperture and ISO would need roughly 1/15 sec with this filter. That slower shutter can soften moving water or show motion in passing clouds. You can also keep the shutter speed and ISO fixed and open the aperture by three stops, if your lens and lighting allow it. The effect is useful but deliberately moderate: for very long exposures in strong daylight, you may need more light reduction than this filter provides.
Specialist Note
Want a little more control in bright light without jumping straight to a very dark filter? That’s the role this Urth ND8 fills. Its three-stop reduction gives you a clear starting point: for example, take a 1/125 sec exposure down to about 1/15 sec at the same aperture and ISO to give moving water a softer look. The 95mm size is the detail to keep in mind when choosing where it belongs in your filter setup. I’d point this out to someone who wants moderate shutter-speed control or a wider aperture in brighter conditions. It won’t provide the heavy reduction needed for every long-exposure scene, so think of it as a measured tool, not an all-day-light fix.
