LaCie 1BIG Dock 20TB 3.5IN 2XTHB3 USB3.1

LaCie 1big Dock 20TB 3.5in 2xTHB3 USB 3.1 | Keep a large working archive in one place

Without a dedicated external drive, working files can end up scattered across a computer and smaller storage devices. The LaCie 1big Dock gives you a single external HDD with 20TB of capacity, suited to photographers, video editors and other people who regularly handle large collections of files. It can serve as a place to keep an active project archive or a separate copy of files you want to store away from your computer. Its 3.5-inch format and the connection types named for this model make it a more considered desktop-storage purchase than a pocket drive. The honest trade-off is that 20TB is a lot of space to buy if your files take up little room. If your library keeps growing, though, having substantial capacity in one drive can make storage easier to plan.

Room for a growing archive

A large capacity is most useful when you have a clear job for it: keeping completed shoots, video projects or other bulky files together instead of spreading them across several smaller drives. The 1big Dock is an external HDD, so think of it as storage for files rather than a replacement for the computer you work on. You can decide how to arrange your folders and what to keep on the drive; the product name alone doesn’t determine your backup routine. For important work, keep your storage habits in mind rather than assuming that one drive is a complete backup plan. That’s a practical point with any single storage device.

Connection details

This model is identified with two Thunderbolt 3 connections and USB 3.1. Those are the connection standards to compare with the equipment and setup you intend to use. The title doesn’t give a basis for claims about transfer rates, extra docking functions or particular computer compatibility, so this description sticks to the stated details. If you’re choosing it for an existing workspace, the useful question is whether these connection types fit the way you plan to connect and use external storage.
