Radius Tascam DR-05X Mini Windcover | Help tame wind in outdoor recordings

Without a windcover, a gust can add distracting noise to an outdoor recording. The Radius Tascam DR-05X Mini Windcover is a small windcover intended for the Tascam DR-05X, providing a barrier around the recorder’s microphone area. It suits DR-05X owners who record voice notes, interviews or ambient sound outside and want a simple way to make moving air less intrusive. Its best use is practical: add it for a spoken recording in a light breeze, rather than expecting it to rescue audio in severe wind. The “Mini” name points to a compact accessory, handy when you want to keep a recorder setup uncomplicated. In a sheltered indoor space, you may have little need for it; outdoors, it addresses one specific source of unwanted sound without changing how you record. It’s a focused accessory for the moments when wind is the main concern.

Specialist Note

For a DR-05X interview on a breezy street, I’d use this Mini cover to help keep moving air from dominating the recording. The DR-05X designation is useful: this is made for that recorder, rather than being a general windcover to adapt. “Mini” also tells you to expect a compact accessory, not a large shield around your setup. I’d consider it for outdoor spoken notes or a short ambient recording, then choose a more sheltered position if gusts become strong. It can help with wind reaching the mic area, but it won’t make a very windy location quiet. That’s a sensible trade-off for a small, model-specific accessory.
