Radius Tascam DR-40X Mini Windcover
Radius Tascam DR-40X Mini Windcover | Help tame wind in outdoor recordings
A light breeze can turn a clear spoken note or outdoor recording into a distracting rush of wind noise. The Radius Tascam DR-40X Mini Windcover is an accessory for the Tascam DR-40X, made to cover the recorder’s microphones and help reduce that problem. It’s aimed at DR-40X owners who record outside and want a simple way to manage wind without changing their recorder. That makes it relevant for spoken notes, interviews and ambient sound where wind might otherwise dominate the recording. A windcover has a specific job: it helps shield the microphones from moving air. It won’t remove traffic, voices or handling noise, so it’s best thought of as a focused aid rather than a fix for every sound issue. If wind is the concern, this small, model-specific accessory keeps the solution direct.
For the best result, use the cover when wind is reaching the microphones, and choose a sheltered recording position when you can. The cover addresses wind at the recorder; placement still matters, especially when you’re trying to capture speech clearly. It’s a practical addition to a DR-40X setup for recording outdoors, without adding another recording device or changing how you capture sound.
Specialist Note
This Mini Windcover tackles wind noise at the DR-40X’s microphones, rather than asking you to improvise a shield. The model name matters: it’s made for the Tascam DR-40X, so it’s a specific match for owners of that recorder, not a general cover to adapt. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or spoken notes; put the recorder where you want to capture the voice, then use the cover to help shield the microphones from moving air. It’s a focused accessory, not a cure for wind in every situation, and it won’t quiet other sounds around you. For breezy locations, a more sheltered position can still help.
