Wooden Camera Short Pass Through Top Plate (Red DSMC2)
Wooden Camera Short Pass Through Top Plate (Red DSMC2) | A focused top-plate option
For a RED DSMC2 rig on a tripod, a short top-plate arrangement can help keep the build’s upper layout in line with the setup you have planned. The Wooden Camera Short Pass Through Top Plate (Red DSMC2) is a tripod accessory made for this specific camera system. Its name tells you what to consider: it’s a short top plate with a pass-through design, rather than a general-purpose plate. That makes it relevant when you’re planning a dedicated DSMC2 rig and want the top-plate format to suit your layout. It’ll suit camera operators and assistants who have a clear idea of how they want their rig arranged, particularly when a longer top-plate format isn’t what they’re after. If you’re refining an existing RED DSMC2 configuration, this gives you a specific plate option to assess against the space and routing needs of your build.
The product’s description is deliberately specific, which helps when you’re comparing parts for a rig: it identifies both the short format and the pass-through design, as well as the RED DSMC2 system. Those details give you a useful starting point for deciding whether it belongs in your setup, without suggesting it’s a universal tripod accessory. Think through the layout you need before choosing a top plate; the right fit here depends on building around the named camera system and wanting this particular style of plate.
Specialist Note
If the top of your DSMC2 rig feels more extended than your planned layout calls for, the short format is the detail I’d focus on first. It gives you a way to consider a less extended top-plate arrangement instead of defaulting to a longer one. The pass-through design is the other point to weigh: plan how it will sit within your intended rig layout before you settle on the arrangement. I’d point this toward someone building specifically around RED DSMC2 who already knows they want a short plate. It’s a considered, system-specific accessory, not a general tripod plate, so its value comes down to whether those details suit your build.
