Meike 55mm f/1.8 AF STM Pro L Mount
Meike 55mm f/1.8 AF STM Pro L Mount | A natural perspective for portraits
Meike’s choice of a 55mm standard-prime view gives this lens a natural-feeling perspective, while its f/1.8 maximum aperture gives portraits room for subject separation. It’s an autofocus interchangeable lens for Leica L-mount cameras, suited to photographers who want a dedicated prime rather than a zoom. Portraits are its strongest match: a single subject can hold attention without the exaggerated perspective a much wider view can bring. It also works well for everyday details and small scenes when you want to compose deliberately and keep the frame simple. Autofocus keeps focusing part of the setup, so you can concentrate on expression and framing. This is a straightforward, portrait-minded lens. It won’t cover multiple focal lengths, so it suits you best if you’re happy to work with one fixed view.
Specialist Note
Autofocus keeps the setup simple here: you can focus on the face and the framing instead of starting with manual focus adjustments. For a head-and-shoulders portrait, I’d begin at f/1.8 if you want the background softer and the subject to draw attention; place focus carefully on the eye, as the wide aperture leaves less room for focus error. The 55mm view suits a composed single-person portrait, too. I’d recommend this lens to Leica L-mount users who mainly shoot portraits and enjoy working with a fixed focal length. You’ll reframe by moving, not by zooming, so it’s less suited to situations where you need to change framing quickly from one spot.
