Viltrox FE 20 f/1.8 Sony E Mount | Wide views with room to work

Wide interiors, open landscapes and foreground-led compositions are where a 20mm view comes into its own. The Viltrox FE 20 f/1.8 Sony E Mount is a wide-angle lens for Sony E-mount cameras, with a 20mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.8. It suits photographers who want to fit more of a scene into the frame, or bring a nearby detail forward against a broader background. The wide view rewards deliberate framing: small changes in camera position can noticeably alter the relationship between foreground and distance. Its f/1.8 maximum aperture is useful when available light is limited, and can help separate a subject from the background when focusing close. This is a specialist focal length rather than an all-purpose reach; it’s best when the breadth of the scene is part of the picture.

Specialist Note

At 20mm, the frame takes in a lot, so I’d pay attention to what’s near the edges as well as the main subject. For a room interior, step back only as far as you need, then keep the camera level if you want walls to look more natural. The f/1.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work in softer indoor light; opening it up can also help make a nearby subject stand apart from the background. I’d point this lens toward architecture, interiors and broad landscape views. Its wide perspective isn’t the right fit when you need a distant subject to fill the frame.
