Calibrite ColorChecker Display Plus HL | Calibrate high-brightness displays accurately

A display that looks convincing but shows colour or brightness inaccurately can undermine careful editing and review. The Calibrite ColorChecker Display Plus HL is a screen-calibration colorimeter with a high-luminance sensor rated for displays up to 10,000 nits. It measures LCD, mini-LED, OLED and QD-OLED screens, including HDR displays in the XDR class, on desktop computers and laptops. That makes it relevant to creative professionals working across different screen technologies, rather than only to owners of one particular panel type. For still photography, a calibrated display gives you a more dependable reference while adjusting colour and tone; for HDR work, the unusually high luminance range covers screens beyond standard monitor brightness. It also has a specific role in Apple workflows: on macOS Tahoe 26.4 or later, it integrates with Apple Pro Display Calibrator and supports Apple’s presets. The device also provides HDR and hardware calibration for the Pro Display XDR, Studio Display and Apple Silicon MacBook Pro models with M1–M5 Pro or Max chips and newer. For photographers and other image-makers who need to judge their work on screen, it brings broad display coverage and a very high brightness ceiling into one calibration device.

Display Calibration Highlights

  • Sensor rated to 10,000 nits: The high-luminance measurement range is suited to HDR displays with brightness well above conventional monitor levels. It gives the device a defined role in workflows where HDR brightness is part of the image being assessed.
  • Measures several panel technologies: LCD, mini-LED, OLED and QD-OLED are all supported. That breadth is useful in studios where a reference display, laptop and secondary screen may use different panel types.
  • Works with desktop and laptop screens: The device covers displays on both kinds of computer, so calibration can be part of a mixed workstation setup rather than limited to a single desktop monitor.
  • HDR and XDR-class support: It can measure HDR displays in the XDR class. This is a relevant feature for image-makers assessing content on high-dynamic-range screens, not just standard display output.
  • Apple Pro Display Calibrator integration: On macOS Tahoe 26.4 or later, the colorimeter works directly with Apple’s calibration software and supports its presets. That gives Apple display users a dedicated calibration route within that software.
  • Hardware calibration for selected Apple displays: HDR and hardware calibration are supported for Pro Display XDR, Studio Display and Apple Silicon MacBook Pro models with M1–M5 Pro or Max chips and newer. This is particularly pertinent when calibrating those displays as part of an Apple-based creative workstation.

Specialist Note

This is a dedicated screen-calibration instrument, so its value is specifically in getting a dependable display reference; the reason I’d choose the Plus HL is its unusually broad brightness reach. At up to 10,000 nits, it covers HDR screens that sit far beyond the range of ordinary monitor work. For photo editing, I’d use it to calibrate the screen before making close colour and tonal decisions; for HDR grading, its support for XDR-class displays makes it the more relevant tool. Apple users have a particularly clear workflow: on macOS Tahoe 26.4 or later, it integrates with Pro Display Calibrator and its presets. The range of supported panel types is another useful point if your workstation mixes OLED and LCD displays.
