Caruba Hot Shoe Cover Sony TYPE-2
Caruba Hot Shoe Cover Sony TYPE-2 | Trigger off-camera flash for portraits and products
An on-camera flash can make portraits look flat, while product shots may pick up reflections where you don’t want them. The Caruba Hot Shoe Cover Sony TYPE-2 is a flash trigger/transmitter for firing off-camera flashes, giving you more freedom to position the flash away from the camera. It’s suited to photographers who want to work with off-camera flash for portraits or product photography, rather than relying only on light from the camera position. For a portrait, moving the flash to one side can bring shape to a face; for a product, changing its position can help you manage highlights. The product name specifies the Sony TYPE-2 version. Its role is focused: triggering an off-camera flash, so you can work on where the light falls. It’s a straightforward tool for a more deliberate lighting setup.
Making room to shape the light
Think about the shadow and reflection you want before placing the flash. For portraits, try lighting from beside the subject to add dimension. For product work, adjust the flash position to control where bright reflections appear. The transmitter is there to fire the flash; the placement and look of the light come from how you arrange your setup.
Specialist Note
“Will this Caruba trigger fire an off-camera flash?” Yes—it’s a flash trigger/transmitter, intended to fire flashes away from the camera. I’d consider it when you want to change the direction of light for a portrait, or move the flash around a product to manage reflections. Those are the two jobs this product is described for, and that’s where its role is clearest: it triggers the flash while you decide where the light should land. The name specifies Sony TYPE-2, so keep that exact designation in mind when choosing this version. It won’t shape the light itself; that comes from your flash placement.
