Formatt Hitech Firecrest 105mm Superslim UV IR Cut
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 105mm Superslim UV IR Cut | Dedicated UV and IR filtering in a slim format
Without a dedicated filter, there’s no extra filter layer intended to cut ultraviolet and infrared light. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest UV IR Cut is made for photographers who want that specific filtering in front of the lens. Its purpose is focused: it cuts UV and IR, rather than adding a creative colour or soft-focus effect. That suits a considered landscape setup or other image-making where controlling those parts of the light is part of the brief. It’s less relevant if you’re simply after a general-purpose filter or a visible effect. I’d think of it as a technical tool for a defined job: choose it when UV and IR filtering is what you need, rather than expecting it to change the character of a photograph in some unrelated way. The simple appeal is that its purpose is clear before you fit it.
Specialist Note
The 105mm format makes this a specific purchase: it only makes sense for a lens setup that takes that filter size. The reason to choose it is the combination of that size with a Superslim design and a defined UV/IR-cut role. A slim profile keeps the filter form restrained in front of the lens, while the UV IR Cut designation tells you what the filter is there to do. It suits photographers with a 105mm filter setup who need UV and IR filtering for landscape work or a more controlled technical image. Fit it before shooting when that filtering is required; it isn’t a general creative-effect filter.
