Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 1.2 (4stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 1.2 (4stops) Filter | Four stops for slower shutter speeds
The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 82mm ND 1.2 (4stops) Filter cuts the light reaching your camera by four stops, giving landscape and outdoor photographers more room to choose their exposure in bright conditions. It’s particularly suited to photographers who want movement in a scene—such as water or passing clouds—to register as a softer blur rather than a frozen instant. With four stops of light reduction, a shutter speed of 1/60 second can become 1/4 second at the same aperture and ISO, a noticeable change for flowing water. You can also use the reduction to keep a wider aperture in brighter light, if that suits the look you’re after. The 82mm size makes this a specific fit for filter setups that use that diameter, so it’s worth matching the filter size to your lens setup. This is a fixed-strength ND filter: its appeal is a substantial, predictable four-stop reduction, rather than adjustable density in one filter.
Specialist Note
Landscape photographers shaping the movement of streams, surf or cloud cover are the people I’d point towards this 82mm Firecrest. Its ND 1.2 rating gives you four stops, which can turn 1/60 second into 1/4 second without changing aperture or ISO; that’s a practical starting point for showing motion in water. The 82mm size matters too: it’s for a setup that takes an 82mm filter, so match that diameter before planning a shoot around it. I’d choose it when four stops is the reduction you want, rather than when you need to vary the density from scene to scene. For a clear, deliberate long-exposure effect, that fixed strength makes the decision straightforward.
