Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 95mm ND 0.9 (3stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 95mm ND 0.9 (3stops) Filter | Control bright-scene exposure
On a bright day, you may want a slower shutter speed to show movement in a stream or give passing clouds a softer look, but the available light can make that difficult. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND filter reduces the light reaching your camera, giving you more room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture while composing the image you want. It suits photographers who want to manage exposure in daylight, especially when motion is part of the picture. Its 95mm size and ND 0.9 strength are the key details to work around: the density corresponds to a three-stop reduction. That’s a measured amount of light control, rather than an especially strong reduction for very long exposures in bright conditions. Use it when three stops are enough to bring your chosen settings within reach.
Specialist Note
The 95mm format gives you a clear size to plan around: it’s a substantial filter, so make sure your setup accepts that size before building it into your kit. The ND 0.9 rating means three stops less light, which is handy when you want motion blur without changing the look of the scene through a much slower shutter. For example, if your exposure calls for 1/125 sec, three stops can take you to about 1/15 sec at the same aperture and ISO. That’s a practical starting point for moving water or a passing subject. I’d choose it for daylight work where a three-stop shift is enough; it won’t give the very long exposures that call for stronger filtration.
