Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 0.9 (3 Stops)
Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra 105mm Neutral Density 0.9 (3 Stops) | Gain three stops of exposure control
Bright conditions can leave you with a shutter speed that’s too fast for the look you want, or force you to stop down more than you’d prefer. This Formatt Hitech Firecrest Ultra neutral density filter reduces the light reaching your camera by three stops, giving you more room to choose your exposure. That’s useful when you want a slower shutter speed in daylight: for example, an exposure of 1/125 sec becomes roughly 1/15 sec with the filter in place, before any other exposure changes. You can use that extra time to give moving water or passing clouds a softer appearance, depending on the scene and your chosen shutter speed. Its 105mm size makes it a specialist option for photographers whose filter setup takes that format. It’s a straightforward tool for landscape and outdoor work when controlling incoming light matters more than adding colour or effects.
Specialist Note
Three stops is a measured reduction, so this filter won’t turn bright midday into darkness; that’s the honest limit. The reason I’d consider it is that it gives you a predictable amount of exposure room without asking you to change the scene. At 1/125 sec, you can work around 1/15 sec as a starting point for a softer water effect, then adjust to taste. The 105mm size is the detail to plan around: it suits a filter kit built for that format, rather than being a casual add-on to any setup. I’d recommend it to landscape photographers who already use 105mm filters and want a three-stop option for daylight exposures.
