Its range also makes it a strong option for landscape photography and travel, while the wide end can be useful for astro scenes. Autofocus handles focusing for you, leaving you to concentrate on composition. This is a versatile everyday zoom, rather than a specialist lens built around just one subject. If you regularly need a much longer reach, you’ll want another lens alongside it.

Specialist Note

At a city-edge landscape, I’d start at 16mm to keep the foreground and wider scene in the frame. The f/2.8 maximum aperture is handy when the light drops; for a moving portrait, try 1/250 sec and f/2.8, then raise ISO if the exposure needs it. On Fujifilm X bodies, the zoom frames like roughly 24–82.5mm on full frame, so the 55mm end gives you a more composed portrait view without stepping closer. I’d recommend it to someone who wants one lens for travel, landscapes and people. One honest caveat: if you often need more reach than that, plan on adding a longer lens.
