H&Y Black Mist 1/2 Magnetic Filter For RevoRing VND/CPL 67-82mm
H&Y Black Mist 1/2 Magnetic Filter For RevoRing VND/CPL 67-82mm | Softer highlights, more atmospheric images
Bright points of light can take on a softer, more atmospheric glow with the H&Y Black Mist 1/2. This magnetic filter is for photographers and filmmakers who want a gentle diffusion look in portraits, evening scenes or any frame where hard highlights feel distracting. It’s made for the H&Y RevoRing VND/CPL 67-82mm, so it can be used as part of that filter setup rather than as a standalone filter. The 1/2 strength gives the effect a noticeable presence; it’s a considered look, not an invisible correction. Try it with a portrait that has bright lights in the background, or frame a night scene with lamps in view to bring a little softness to those highlights. If you prefer crisp, contrasty rendering with no diffusion character, this filter may not suit your style. For the right scene, though, it offers a simple way to shape the mood in-camera.
Specialist Note
1/2 is a strength you’ll see in the picture: it gives highlights a definite softening character, so I’d use it when you want the effect to contribute to the image rather than disappear. The magnetic design is intended for the RevoRing VND/CPL 67-82mm, which makes sense if that’s already the filter setup you’re using. For a portrait, keep a bright practical light in the background and let the filter soften its edges; for an evening street scene, include lamps in the frame for a more atmospheric rendering. It’s a specialist look, so I’d leave it off when you want a strictly clean, crisp result.
