H&Y HD EVO-Serie White Mist 1/8 Filter Kit 77mm
H&Y HD EVO-Serie White Mist 1/8 Filter Kit 77mm | Gentle highlight glow
Without a mist filter, bright lights and highlights stay crisp, with little of the soft glow associated with a diffused look. The H&Y HD EVO-Serie White Mist 1/8 is a 77mm filter kit for photographers and filmmakers who want to add that quality in a restrained way. It’s best suited to portraits, evening scenes and other images where bright points of light can take on a gentle bloom while the overall scene remains readable. The 1/8 strength keeps the effect subtle, making it a considered starting point if you want atmosphere without an overtly hazy appearance. Use it when you want the image itself to carry a softer mood, rather than relying on editing to create that impression later. The 77mm size is relevant when choosing a filter for a lens with a matching filter thread.
Where the effect works well
White Mist is most noticeable around bright areas, so look for scenes with practical lights, reflections or strong highlights. For an evening street portrait, for example, include a few illuminated signs or lamps in the background; the filter’s gentle glow can help those points of light feel less stark. In a portrait with soft window light, it can bring a subtle diffusion to the image’s brighter areas. The 1/8 strength is a restrained option, so it suits photographers who want to introduce atmosphere while keeping the scene’s details and contrast present. The result depends on the light in the frame, rather than being a fixed look in every situation.
Specialist Note
A 1/8 White Mist effect won’t give you a pronounced, foggy look, and that’s exactly why it makes sense for a gentle change in mood. I’d point it towards portrait makers and filmmakers who want bright backgrounds to bloom softly without making the whole image feel veiled. The 77mm size means it’s intended for a lens with a matching 77mm filter thread, so that’s the key detail to match when choosing it. For a night portrait, keep a few lights behind your subject to make the glow visible; for a calmer result, use softer light and let the effect stay understated. It’s a deliberate look, not a neutral protection filter.
