H&Y K-Series Reverse GND Filter w/ Magnetic Frame ND0.6 | Balance bright horizons

The H&Y K-Series Reverse GND Filter is made for a particular exposure problem: a bright strip of sky sitting right along the horizon. Its reverse graduation puts the strongest light reduction around that area, then fades toward the upper sky, helping you retain more detail in a sunrise or sunset without darkening the whole frame evenly. The ND0.6 density reduces light by two stops at its densest area. That gives you a measured amount of control when the sky is brighter than the landscape, rather than the stronger reduction you might want in more extreme conditions. It suits landscape photographers who work with a clearly defined horizon and want to balance sky and foreground in-camera. The magnetic frame is part of the filter’s mounting design, so it belongs in a compatible magnetic filter setup. For uneven horizons, such as trees or buildings cutting into the sky, a graduated filter can also darken parts of the scene you’d prefer to leave untouched.

Specialist Note

The H&Y K-Series Reverse GND Filter w/ Magnetic Frame ND0.6 is a focused tool for bringing a bright horizon under control. I’d use it for a sunrise or sunset where the sky is pushing the landscape toward underexposure: position the graduation over the horizon, then compose so the darker band covers the bright strip. ND0.6 means two stops at the densest part, a useful moderate correction rather than a fix for every extreme contrast. Its magnetic frame makes sense if your filter setup is magnetic, while the reverse graduation is the reason to choose this particular filter. If the horizon is irregular, watch where the dark transition falls; it can affect trees or rooftops as well as the sky.
