Ilford 906 Doka Filter Donkerrood 20.3x25.4cm
Ilford 906 Doka Filter Donkerrood 20.3x25.4cm | A dark-red filter for darkroom work
Getting a darkroom safelight setup right can be difficult when you need a dark-red filter in a particular size. The Ilford 906 Doka Filter is a darkroom filter measuring 20.3 x 25.4 cm, intended for photographers putting together or maintaining a Doka setup. Its role is specific: it provides a dark-red filtering panel for darkroom lighting, rather than a color effect for a camera lens. That makes it relevant to print work and other hands-on tasks in a darkroom where you want a red-filtered working area. The rectangular format gives you a defined area to work with when planning your setup. It’s a focused component, not a general-purpose filter, so its value is in having the dark-red filter you need for this particular job. Consider the dimensions in relation to where the filter is meant to sit in your safelight arrangement.
Specialist Note
This filter has a very particular job; it won’t serve as a general color-effect filter for camera photography. But for a Doka darkroom setup that calls for a dark-red panel, that focus is exactly the point. I’d consider it for creating a red-lit work area while handling prints, or for replacing a filter in an existing arrangement. The 20.3 x 25.4 cm size gives you a clear panel dimension to plan around, so measure the intended position before setting up. Use the dark-red filter at the designated point in your safelight arrangement, and keep in mind that the right fit depends on your setup.
